TB1140 swapping out rubber for steel

The customer’s Takeuchi TB1140 excavator experienced a “malfunction” when its right rubber track snapped during loading onto a trailer. Customer called in to inquire about the cost implications of replacing the entire undercarriage and transitioning from rubber to steel tracks.

It’s important to note that converting from rubber to steel tracks does not necessitate changing sprockets, rollers, or idlers, which represents a considerable cost-saving benefit.

The price for a new 20” wide rubber tracks for the TB1140 is $4566, while a set of steel tracks is priced at $8444. Additionally, steel tracks offer enhanced durability and longevity compared to rubber tracks, potentially reducing long-term maintenance and replacement costs.
